The other week Mats and I were out on the town and stopped outside a "Smart Shop" to see what sort of mushrooms they had on display, it was the first time we had been approached by a drug dealer in Amsterdam...
Drug dealer: "Hello there, I noticed you were looking at drugs, that shop is closed but I am open, would you like some drugs, cocaine?"
Mats: "No, we're OK"
Drug dealer: "OK, no worries! (smiles) Well, have a good night" Walks off whistling.
50 metres down the road we walk past him; he smiles, waves and says "hello!"

don't you just love our city?
Totally :D How is it possible that even the drug dealers are nice? Blows me away :)
I used to date a girl from King's Cross. We'd get offered drugs just waiting at the bus stop. But they were never smiling and nice and happy...
Jay: Kings Cross is the worst! I never looked people in the eye there, I saw people get beaten up for things like that!
Drugs and prostitution are rampant there too, if only it was as controlled as it is here in the Red Light District - I bet it would have a lot less problems!
Reminds me of the time a dealer got annoyed with me because I tried to ignore him and he told me, "All you have to say is no. Some manners would be nice."
I have to write about that sometime.
Stu: That is funny :) Manners taught by a drug dealer... I love it!
I like to think he went home and told his wife about the day he had with rude customers.
hehehe
Yes its amazing here...
Back home, if one wants to sell you something they will keep bugging you but here you say NO, and it is NO. Noone will try to pursue it to try it as how nice it is !
And that is same with drugs, it is openly available and it creates minimum nuisance compared to other places !
people of outside world have so much wrong idea/ impression about Amsterdam and Netherlands' Drug policy.
hahahahahaha! Love all of this, even Stu's incident.
Drug dealers have feelings too, Stu!
As for the King's Cross thing- two of my favorite London bars are there! Great area. Gritty, a bit, but still has character!
Oh of course! Kings cross London! It's not so bad there! I was thinking of Kings Cross Sydney, Duh...
... and I just did write about it. Thanks reminding me about the story ;)
Next time say, "I'm a dealer, but thanks anyway." I'm sure he had some fine powdered cleansing agent that he was happy to sell to you for 80 euros a gram.
That is the best story I've ever heard - hands down! That's why I love the Netherlands (among many other reasons, of course) :)
